LPC Mixtape Series, Vol. 3, November/December 2010: Christmas Morning

Depending on how old you are as you're reading this, you're probably several years past the unmatchable excitement of waking up on Christmas morning to see what you've received from family, friends, other relatives, and, of course, Santa.

What were some of the best gifts you received during your childhood? There's always that one gift that you'll always remember because it was on a different level compared to the rest. Likewise, you'll also remember the gift you received from a (presumably) distant relative who was either a cheapskate, unintelligent, or thought you were five years old.

While this mixtape isn't strictly Christmas-themed, I'd like to think it is with several Christmas-related tracks (most of those, thanks to T_R_A, being comedic) and a general thought of Christmas morning in mind (except for the Odd Future stuff, of course!).

Because of the lack of a mixtape for the month of November, we decided to combine the two months into one giant mixtape for both November and December; we think you'll like this a lot.

With that, we'll let you enjoy 30 selections from our staff for the months of November and December.

  1. Afrirampo - Miracle Lucky Girls
  2. Clive Tanaka y su Orquesta - All Night, All Right
  3. Tame Impala - It's Not Meant to Be
  4. Bad Veins - Gold and Warm
  5. Earl Sweatshirt - EARL
  6. Dean Martin - Baby, It's Cold Outside
  7. Girl Talk - That's Right
  8. Max Bemis and the Painful Splits - Do the Dohnk
  9. Sun City Girls - Space Prophet Dogon
  10. Tyler, the Creator - French! Featuring Hodgy Beats
  11. Vince Guaraldi - Linus and Lucy

With this post, I would like to thank everyone who has had a helping hand in the foundation or continuation of this blog. Every writer on this staff that contributes does a great job in writing and it's hard for me to not be happy with the writers we have.

Without the visitors and readers of the blog, though, we wouldn't be able to do any of this. Thanks to all of you for making this possible.

Now let's look at 2011 as the year we can make this improve in so many ways. Good night and Merry Christmas.

LPC Mixtape Series, Vol. 3, October 2010: Monster Jams

As you may have heard earlier this month, EA Sports decided to do the right thing: release the new version of NBA Jam as a separate entity from NBA Elite 11. For people like me who essentially worship the original arcade game, this is fantastic news. Considering the game gets its proper release in about two weeks, I felt it was only appropriate to give the game a good tribute with the title of this mixtape.

As usual, you'll get the varied selections from our writers - everything from Kings of Leon to Coil. As the writer who has to put these mixes together at the end of every month, I greatly enjoy the variety our writers bring to the table. Maybe having 28 writers on the staff does that for you.

Tracklist:

  1. Suis La Lune - In a Deep Hole With Clay and Remorse
  2. Sleigh Bells - Tell 'Em
  3. Electric Six - American Cheese
  4. Javiera Mena - Hasta La Verdad
  5. Le Révélateur - Statues
  6. Kings of Leon - Radioactive
  7. King Tuff - Sun Medallion
  8. Titus Andronicus - No Future, Pt. III (Escape From No Future)
  9. Coil - Tattooed Man
  10. Strawfoot - Strawfoot Waltz
  11. Atlas Sound - Criminals
  12. Deep Thinkers - The Technicolor B-Boy Slide Show
  13. ANBB - I Wish I Was a Mole in the Ground
  14. Spiritualized - Electricity
  15. Mark McGuire - Brothers (For Matt)
  16. Echo & the Bunnymen - The Cutter
  17. Circle Takes the Square - A Crater to Cough In
  18. Star Slinger - Deerhunter - Helicopter (Star Slinger Remix)
  19. Band in Heaven - A Tunnel Into Your Dreams (Demo)
  20. Thoughts Paint the Sky - Akt II: Konflikt - Zwickmühle
As always, enjoy the mixtape.

LPC Mixtape Series, Vol. 2, September 2010: One For Pep Pep

I lied: I'm too lazy to make a better cover for September. But Altered Zones has some of the best backgrounds I've ever seen on a music site and I've got to use them. As the August mixtape was, this is simply a mixtape featuring songs from many of our writers that have been in frequent play for them.

At least the title doesn't totally suck this time, though. The next one will probably be about NBA Jam or something, I don't know.

Tracklist:

  1. Ida Maria - Oh My God
  2. Anberlin - Impossible
  3. Refused - Liberation Frequency
  4. The Soundcarriers - Last Broadcast
  5. Arandel - In D#1
  6. Ketil Bjørnstad - 02 II
  7. Unwound - October All Over
  8. Flying Lotus - Time Vampires
  9. Real Estate - Black Lake
  10. TOKiMONSTA - Death by Disco
  11. Prizzy Prizzy Please - A Thundergust of Woodpeckers
  12. No Age - Valley Hump Crash
  13. Sun Araw - Beat Cop
  14. Four Tet - Slow Jam
  15. Gay Witch Abortion - Curses
  16. The Static Age - Already Dead
  17. Cassiber - Vengeance is Dancing
  18. Deerhunter - Desire Lines
  19. Hard Mix - Memories
  20. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Skeletons

For now, we'll leave these at twenty tracks. As visits to the site increase (we would like to thank all of our visitors for the 5,138 page views last month), we may make these more frequently and add or subtract the amount of songs on the mixtapes.

Think of Richard Dunn when you listen to this. Just for a tribute.

LPC Mixtape Series Vol. 1, August 2010: Peter's First Tape

My poor attempt at a cover aside (I'll make a better one for September), this is a mixtape featuring fourteen songs picked by our writers that, from LPC's foundation in late June to now, have been some of their favorites.

3. Electric Six - I Buy the Drugs
4. Svarti Loghin - Kosmik Tomhet

10. Crooked Necks - Poisoning the Seed
